Article Summary

In addition to the storage defined with the virtual server, you need additional storage for the portal datapool.

To set up storage:

  1. In the IBM Cloud console, in the Device Details page for the portal virtual server, select Storage.
  2. Under Block Storage click Authorize Storage and, in the popup, click Purchase Storage.
  3. Under Endurance, click Order.
  4. Specify the following:
Location – The same location where the virtual server resides.
Billing – The payment schedule. Monthly is cheaper than hourly, but part of a month is charged for the whole month.
Size – The size for the storage. The minimum size should be enough for a full backup.
Storage IOPS Options – Select Endurance (Tiered IOPS). The IOPS tier you select is dependent on the I/O you generally experience. The minimum is 2 IOPS/GB.
Snapshot Space – Leave this value as 0GB. For the portal database, you need to create a second server to act as a replication database for backups, described in Backing Up the Database.
    Operating System – Linux.
  5. Optionally, click Calculate Total Cost to calculate the monthly rate.
  6. Read and then check the Terms and Conditions checkboxes and click Place Order.
The Block Storage page is displayed. After a few minutes, when the storage is created, it is displayed in the list of storage devices.

Setting up the storage can take a few minutes. If the storage is not displayed in the block storage list, refresh the list. To identify the storage CTERA recommends adding a note to uniquely describe the storage.

  1. Click Actions and then Authorize Host.
The Authorize Hosts window is displayed.
  2. Specify the following:
Device Type – Select Virtual Server.
Virtual Guest – The name of the virtual server you defined.
  3. Click Submit.

The datapool must be a single disk for snapshot support. For snapshot details, see Managing Snapshots.
