Installations

CTERA Edge Filers are available as physical or virtual appliances:

• H Series CTERA Edge Filers run under a VMware ESXI hypervisor on a range of physical appliances: HC100, HC400, HC400E, HC400T, HC1200, HC2400M.
• V Series CTERA Edge Filers are software-based gateways running on a hypervisor: ESXi, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, OpenStack/KVM, or in a cloud: AWS, Azure, GCP.

Access to the underlying operating system of the edge filer, whether installed on a hypervisor or in the cloud, for debug purposes, is available only via a special challenge-response mechanism that is disabled by default, and only available for use by CTERA technicians. SSH is disabled by default and can be enabled only for debug purposes with the special challenge-response mechanism.

Users with access to the virtual machine console can configure networking settings and reset the edge filer to its default settings but no access to the underlying operating system is possible.
