- H Series CTERA Edge Filers run under a VMware ESXI hypervisor on a range of physical appliances: HC100, HC400, HC400E, HC400T, HC1200, HC2400M.
- V Series CTERA Edge Filers are software-based gateways running on a hypervisor: ESXi, Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, OpenStack/KVM, or in a cloud: AWS, Azure, GCP.
Access to the underlying operating system of the edge filer, whether installed on a hypervisor or in the cloud, for debug purposes, is available only via a special challenge-response mechanism that is disabled by default, and only available for use by CTERA technicians. SSH is disabled by default and can be enabled only for debug purposes with the special challenge-response mechanism.
Upgrading an Edge Filer
You cannot upgrade a CTERA Edge Filer from versions 7.0.x, 7.2.x, or 7.3.x to this version directly. Instead, upgrade the firmware to version 7.5.x and only then to this version.
The recommended method to upgrade the CTERA Edge Filer firmware is by pushing new firmware from the CTERA Portal. For details, refer to How to Upgrade the Firmware. Also see Upgrading the Edge Filer.
Users with access to the virtual machine console can configure networking settings and reset the edge filer to its default settings but no access to the underlying operating system is possible.
