Installing CTERA MacAssist (CTERA Cache Assist)

Note

You only need to download and install CTERA MacAssist once. After installing CTERA MacAssist, you are automatically prompted to update it when a new version is released by CTERA.

Download CTERA MacAssist on the macOS computers that connect to a CTERA Edge Filer that is configures in Caching mode. You download CTERA MacAssist from https://www.ctera.com/technology/ctera-macassist/.

To install CTERA MacAssist:

  1. Double-click the CTERACacheAssist_Vx.x.pkg download.
    The download is displayed in In Finder under Downloads.

    The following warning is displayed. This warning can be ignored.

  2. Click OK.
  3. Click System Preferences and in the System Preferences window.

  4. Click Security & Privacy.

  5. Select the General tab and click Open Anyway.
    The following warning is displayed. This warning can be ignored.

  6. Click Open.
    The Install CTERACacheAssist_Vx.x window is displayed.

  7. Click Continue.

  8. Either click Install to install, which is recommended by CTERA, or click Change Install Location to install on a location that is not the default.
    If you want to change the install location, after clicking Change Install Location, select the destination you want and click Continue and then click Install.
  9. Enter the password for the machine and then click Install Software.
  10. Wait until the installation finishes and click Close.

  11. At the prompt, either click Keep, to keep the installer or Move to Trash to free up the space used by the installer.

  12. In Finder select Applications and then click CTERA Cache Assist from the list of the applications.
    The CTERA Cache Assist window is displayed.

  13. Make sure Enable is checked.
  14. Optionally, click Disable Preview. For details about this feature, see Disabling Previews of Stub Files.
