Data Loss prevention software is used to prevent users from sharing critical data outside the organization.
The CTERA Portal Security Pack add-on and an ICAP Server and license are required.
CTERA Portal integrates with Symantec Data Loss Prevention Network Monitor and Network Prevent for Email and Web (Symantec Data Loss Prevention) to ensure data protection. You can set up Symantec Data Loss Prevention to scan for confidential and sensitive data stored in files in the portal when there is a request to view or download a file by an external user and stop the file from being viewed or downloaded.
Internal users are not restricted using Symantec Data Loss Prevention from viewing or downloading files.
CTERA Portal integrates with Symantec Data Loss Prevention through the ICAP protocol.
To implement DLP, you require a DLP license from CTERA Networks Ltd. Using portal subscription plans, you can activate or deactivate the DLP feature for specific virtual portals.
When DLP is implemented, files are scanned for sensitive data automatically and transparently, based on the DLP policies set in Symantec Data Loss Prevention. Content that is defined as sensitive is identified and the file cannot be downloaded, viewed or copied by external users. A reference to the file is also written to a list of sensitive files which the administrator can view and then determine if any action is necessary. When the browser used is Google Chrome, you are notified that a download failed. With other browsers, the download is unsuccessful without a notification.
If access to file with sensitive data is blocked, the global and portal administrators receive an email notification.
Each file is scanned once, on the first attempt to view it or download it by an external user. Subsequent download attempts are allowed or blocked, based on this first scan result.
