Adding the Edge Filer to a Zone in the Portal

If portal zones are enabled, the CTERA Edge Filer must be defined in a portal zone.

Note

Portal zones are enabled by default from portal version 8.3.3300.x.

After the initial setup, an edge filer is intentionally associated with the No Folders zone in the portal to prevent downloading the entire global namespace metadata. In addition, if the edge filer were to sync all metadata upfront and later be reassigned to a specific zone, it would need to remove that metadata from the database that would introduce locks, unnecessary processing, and delays.

Since the edge filer is associated by default with the No Folders zone on the portal synchronization does not start.

To add the edge filer to a zone in the portal:

  1. Sign in to the CTERA Portal as a team portal administrator.
    The end user interface is displayed.
  2. Access the team administrator interface.
    The administration interface opens in a new tab.
  3. Access the Zones page and add the edge filer to the relevant zone that includes the folders that you want the edge filer to have access to. For details, when zones are enabled by default, see:
