Configuring Email Alerts

You can configure the CTERA Edge Filer to send alerts upon important events. The alerts can be sent to up to two email addresses.

To configure the CTERA Edge Filer to send email alerts:

  1. In the Configuration view, select Alerts > Mail Server in the navigation pane.
    The Mail Server page is displayed.

  2. Slide Enable SMTP Server on.

  3. Configure the settings according to the requirements:
    SMTP Server – The SMTP server's IP address.
    SMTP Port – The SMTP server's port number. The default is 25.

  4. If you require authentication to the SMTP server, slide Enable Authentication on.

    Username – The user name when authenticating to the SMTP server.
    Password – The password for the user.

  5. To use Transport Layer Security (TLS) encryption for sending email messages from the CTERA Edge Filer, slide Enable TLS on.

  6. If you made any changes, click Save, otherwise click Revert to revert to the last saved configuration.

  7. In the Configuration view, select Alerts > Email Alerts in the navigation pane.

  8. Configure the settings according to the requirements:
    Email Recipient 1 – An email address to which email alerts are sent.
    Email Recipient 2 – A second email address to which email alerts are sent.
    Sender Email – The email address for the From field of email alerts.

  9. To test the configuration, click Test.
    A test email is sent to the specified email addresses.

  10. Under Alert Events configure what events will trigger an email.

    • Minimum Severity of Messages to Log – The minimum event severity level for which to send email alerts. For example, if you select Critical, then only Critical, Alert, and Emergency logs are sent to the email recipients.

  11. Slide on each type of alert event for which you want emails to be sent:

    • No cloud connectivity – When there is no cloud connectivity for more than the specified number of hours.
    • Last Cloud Backup was more than – When the last backup operation was performed more than the specified number of days ago.
    • Last Cloud Sync was more than – When the last cloud synchronization operation was performed more than the specified number of hours ago.
    • Volume Full – When a volume is more than the specified percentage full.

    Additional Event Notifications

    • Cloud Backup Success – When a backup operation succeeded.
    • Firmware Updated – When the CTERA Edge Filer firmware has been updated.
    • Device Shutdown/Started – When the CTERA Edge Filer starts up and shuts down.

  12. If you made any changes, click Save, otherwise click Revert to revert to the last saved configuration.
