By default, the CTERA Edge Filer is automatically assigned an IP address and DNS settings by the DHCP server. If the network uses static IP addresses instead of DHCP, you must configure the CTERA Edge Filer's network settings.
If a DHCP server is not available, then, after one minute, the CTERA Edge Filer uses IP address 192.168.192.5.
You can apply a custom DNS configuration to each CTERA Edge Filer according to its DHCP class identifier.
To configure network settings:
- In the Configuration view, select System > Network in the navigation pane.
The Network Interfaces page is displayed.

- Click the network adapter name.
The network adapter page is displayed.

- Configure the settings.
Obtain an IP address automatically – The CTERA Edge Filer obtains an IP address automatically from the DHCP server in the network.
Use the following IP address – Assign the CTERA Edge Filer a static IP address and specify the IP address, netmask, and default gateway.

When defining a static IP address you must also specify the DNS servers.
Obtain a DNS server address automatically – The CTERA Edge Filer obtains DNS server addresses automatically from the DHCP server in the network.
Use the following DNS server address – Specify DNS servers for the CTERA Edge Filer and specify the address of the primary and secondary DNS servers.
NoteIf you configure these settings incorrectly, you may lose network connectivity to the CTERA Edge Filer.
- Click Save.
To configure a static route:
- In the Configuration view, select System > Network in the navigation pane.
The Network Interfaces page is displayed.

- Click New Route.
The New Static Route page is displayed.

- Configure the settings.
Destination – The static route IP.
Netmask – The netmask for the static route.
Gateway – The gateway for the static route.
Interface – The network interface for the static route from the list. Enable Metric (Priotrity) – A numerical value that indicates the static route preference for use when multiple routes exist to the same destination.NoteWhen the edge filer is defined with more than one network interface you can create different static routes to use different network interfaces.

- Click Save.

To delete a static route:
- In the Configuration view, select System > Network in the navigation pane.
The Network Interfaces page is displayed. - Select the static route to delete and click Delete.
- Click Delete in the confirmation window.
