File Formats That Are Not Cached or Synced

A file that is locked by the application that owns it cannot be cached or synced to a CTERA Edge Filer (Gateway) nor to a CTERA Agent.

For example, whenever ANY Office application is opened (no need to open a file or do anything – just open the app) “Outlook.pst” becomes locked.

Examples of files that are locked by the application and that cannot be cached or synced to CTERA Edge Filers (Gateways) or to CTERA Drives (Agents):

  • .pst files (Microsoft Office)
  • .ost files (Microsoft Outlook)
  • .one and .onetoc2 files (Microsoft OneNote)
  • .mdf and .ldf files (Microsoft SQL Server)

Closing the application releases the lock and the files are synced.
