Manage File Locking for the Edge Filer

Prev Next

Global file locking is configured on the portal at the folder level.

When a user opens a file on the edge filer and file locking has been enabled on the cloud folder that includes the file, no other user can edit the file on that edge filer or on any other edge filer connected to the portal.

This process also ensures that the when a file is open and locked for writing, it will always be the consistent, latest version of the file. If someone else attempts to open the file with a lock, write access is denied until the lock is released. Depending on the application the file might open as a read only copy. The following file types can be locked: indd, idlk, dwl, dwl2, dwt, dwg, ppt, pptx, xls, xlsx, doc, docx, rvt, revit .dat (revit backup files).

File locking is implemented on the portal for portals version 8.3.x and higher. When locking is implemented on a cloud folder, the conflict mechanism is disabled.

To disable file locking for a specific edge filer:

  1. In the Configuration view, select Cloud Drive > Cloud Drive in the navigation pane.
The Cloud Drive page is displayed.

  2. Click Settings.

  4. Change the Bypass global file locking to Enabled.

The file locking mechanism is disabled for this edge filer and conflict files are created when more than one version of a file is being edited at the same time. Global file locking is stil enabled for files on all other edge filers connected to the portal.
