Object Replication

Prev Next

This article describes the procedure to use Wasabi Object Replication to replicate objects from one region to another within the same continent. This can be used torecover from natural disasters or other events in a region.

Prerequisites

  • Active Wasabi Cloud Storage account.
  • Active CTERA storage node pointing to a Wasabi bucket.
  • Existing files reside in a Wasabi source bucket.

High-level Steps

  1. Sign up for notifications to be sent to your account email address.
  2. Create a Wasabi destination bucket where the source bucket will be replicated to.
  3. Create an object replication job on the source bucket pointing to thedestination bucket.
  4. In the case of a disaster, see Recovering from a Storage Disaster.

Sign Up for Object Replication Notifications

Signing up for notifications will allow you to receive information about any objectreplication failures as well as when the initial replication has finished.

  1. Login to the Wasabi Console.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Click Notifications.
  4. Next to Object Replication, slide Email Notifications on.
  5. Enter your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) code in the MFA Code field.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Create the Wasabi Destination Bucket

The destination bucket is the bucket that the source bucket will replicate to.

  1. In the Wasabi Console, navigate to Buckets and search for the source bucket.
  2. Choose the region within the same continent for the destination bucket.
  3. Click Create Bucket.
  4. Enter a name for the destination bucket.
  5. Select the region for the bucket.
    Note

The destination bucket region must be in the same continent as the source bucket region. For example, if the source region is us-east-1, the destination region can be any of the Americas regions, like us-west-2 but it cannot be an EMEA region like eu-central-1.

  6. Click CreateBucket.

Create an Object Replication Job

  1. In the Buckets page click the name of the source bucket.
  2. Click the Settings, Image, icon.
  3. Click the Object Replication tab.
  4. Click Create Replication Job.
  5. Choose the replication type, either Replication to a bucket within this account or Replication to a bucket in another account.
  6. Enter a name for the replication job and the destination bucket created in Create the Wasabi Destination Bucket.
Check Sync Deleted Objects. to allows CTERA to control the lifecycle of the source bucket.
    Note

Files that deleted from the source bucket will also be deleted from the
    destination bucket.
    :::

  7. Click Create.

The objects in the source bucket will now begin to replicate to the destination bucket.

You receive an email when the initial replication completes.
