Microsoft Office File Locked

Problem

When accessing Microsoft Office type files from a CTERA Edge Filer (gateway) over the network, you can receive a message that the file is locked by another user. 

Cause

The message could be the result of:

• Windows Search Indexing of network shares
• Preview Pane
• Details Pane

Solution

The solution is dependent on the cause.

• If the cause was Windows Search Indexing, disable Windows Search Indexing.
• If the cause was the Preview Pane, disable it.
• If the cause was the Details Pane, disable it.
