What to back up and when to schedule backups is managed in the device connected to the CTERA Portal.
- The CTERA Edge Filer configuration (db.xml) is automatically backed up, by default, every 24 hours when the edge filer is connected to a CTERA Portal.
- Backups of local files to a portal is managed in CTERA Drive Protect.
After a backup is created in the CTERA Portal, you can manage the backup from the CTERA Portal, including viewing content, copying content, for the current backup and for previous backups in addition to restoring a backup.

Content on the CTERA Portal is backed up according to the policy set by your CTERA Portal administrator. For details about recovering CTERA Portal content, see Managing Deleted Items and Viewing or Restoring Previous Versions.
